Global Renewables Grew At Fastest Rate In Two Decades In 2020

Renewable sources of electricity such as wind and solar grew at their fastest rate in two decades in 2020 and are set to expand in coming years at a much faster pace than prior to the pandemic, according to a new report by the International Energy Agency (IEA).

 

California’s Governor Proposes $350 Million Support For Long-Duration Energy Storage In Budget Revision

California governor Gavin Newsom has tabled a revision to the US state’s budget which would put US$100 billion into economic recovery, including US$912 million to accelerate progress on climate change mitigation through the energy sector and US$3.2 billion for zero emissions vehicles support.

 

Green Bank Leveraged $1.69 Billion In Clean Energy Projects During 2020

The American Green Bank Consortium added five new green banks and said that market actors across 22 states were actively exploring or taking steps to develop green banks. The report said that green banks leveraged $1.69 billion of total investment by using $442 million of green bank funds. This brings cumulative green bank investment to $7 billion using $1.9 billion in green bank funds.

Brazilian fund manager Perfin has created a new company focused on renewable energy generation, especially solar, with expected investment totaling 5.5 billion reais ($1 billion) by 2025, a company executive told Reuters. The new company Mercury Renew, which has an operational partnership with energy generator Servtec, is Perfin’s latest venture into energy and highlights investor interest in Brazil’s electricity sector and potential in renewables.
